Welcome to Year 2. We are Mrs Hopla and Mrs Howard, and we are delighted to be the Year 2 class teachers this year. Mrs Hopla is the teacher in Maple class and Mrs Howard is the teacher in Willow class.

The children are settling into their new classes well and demonstrating our school values of pride, compassion, respect and responsibility.

 We have an exciting term ahead of us. Please see our long-term plan on our curriculum page for an overview of what we will be covering this year. Some of the highlights for this term will be learning about habitats and microhabitats in science. In geography, we will be learning about the different seasons and in history the children will be exploring The Wright Brothers and the history of flying. We will be designing a moving monster linked to mechanisms in DT and developing painting skills using mixed media, creating life in colour in art. In maths, the children will be deepening their understanding, knowledge and skills in Place Value, adding and subtracting. In English, the children will continue developing their writing skills with narrative and poetry texts.

In Year 2, reading plays a vital part in children learning across the curriculum. We welcome your support in reading with your child as often as possible to help develop their reading skills and knowledge.
