Reading

In Year One, children make amazing progress with their reading. In school we hear children read individually and during daily classroom sessions. Please could you support your child by listening to them read each evening and discussing their books with them. Even 5 minutes of reading on a regular basis will make a huge difference to your child’s understanding, fluency and enjoyment of reading. Could an adult please write in your child’s reading record when you have heard them read and let us know of any issues/successes your child has with their books. Please could reading books and reading records come back to school each day. Reading books are changed on Thursdays.

Year one visit our GMA library on alternate Wednesdays. Please ensure that your child has their library book in school on Wednesdays.

We have access to the Oxford Owl e-library. Your children have Oxford owl logins in their reading records. Please encourage them to access books from the e-library.

We are also very lucky to have Arlesey Resource Centre (library) next to our school. It is free to join and has a great range of books for children to browse and borrow.
