Reception - Ash & Oak
Welcome to the home page of Ash and Oak classes.
Mrs Undrell is the teacher in Ash class and Mrs Webber & Mrs Britton are the teachers in Oak class. We also have some wonderful support staff working across the classes including: Mrs Maycock, Mrs Russell, Miss Jewell, Mrs Reynolds, Mrs Watts, Mrs Bridges, Mrs Skeggs, Mrs Oliver, Mrs Godfrey, Mrs Naida, Mrs Davidson, Mrs Houghton-Small, Mrs Randall, Mrs Moseley and Mrs Lee.
Our curriculum is based on the EYFS Framework 2021 and covers seven areas of learning and development:
- Communication and language
- Physical development
- Personal Social and Emotional development
- Literacy
- Mathematics
- Understanding the World
- Expressive Arts and Design
We believe that children learn best through a combination of child initiated play, structured play activities and adult focused teaching sessions. Children are in their own classes for adult focused teaching sessions but have free access to the whole reception setting, including the outside area, during child initiated play. Staff carefully observe and support the children during their child initiated play in order to identify their interests and next steps for learning. Daily, adult focused teaching sessions enable the children to develop their skills in areas such as Phonics, Maths, handwriting as well as other areas of learning. Within the Early Years Foundation Stage, children learn through playing, exploring and being active, and through creative and critical thinking, which takes place both indoors and outside.
We also have a strong focus on how our children learn and this is supported by our Learning Zoo characters and we am sure the children will come home telling you about some of the characters such as Go for it Gorilla, Persevering Parrot and Proud Peacock!
Well being continues to be a very important focus and we will continue to discuss feelings and emotions with the children using Kipsy the Caterpillar. As well as this, an active, healthy lifestyle will continue to be an important priority and we will be outside enjoying a variety of different activities.
