Steve Stanbury: Chair & lead governor for Finance
I have been a governor at Gothic Mede since February 2014 and have had particular responsibility for Finance during that period. I have lived in Arlesey for almost 10 years, with my wife and two children, one of which is still a Gothic Mede pupil.
I have thoroughly enjoyed my time as Co-opted Governor and look forward to serving you as your new chair. I have always held Gothic Mede in the highest of esteem, it is a wonderful school with dedicated and talented staff. I look forward to leading the Governing Body and working with the staff, children and our parents and carers to ensure that we all continue to uphold the values that Gothic Mede embodies.
I look forward to learning, growing alongside and maintaining Gothic Mede as being a truly amazing school. I can assure you all of my commitment to Gothic Mede and my new role as Chair of Governors. I feel privileged to be the new Chair of Governors at Gothic Mede and to lead an experienced team who work hard to share their expertise to guide the school forward.
I am a qualified internal auditor by profession and am the Director of Internal Audit at a London University, having trained and qualified at Deloitte. Since qualifying I have also become a Certified Fraud Examiner and have a Certification in Risk Management Assurance, from an academic perspective I have a BA in Politics and a MA degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice.
Thomas Clarke – Principal & lead governor for SEND, Pastoral care, Pupil Voice & Welfare
I became a governor at Gothic Mede upon my appointment in 2013. The ambition of the school’s leadership for the children of Arlesey is what first attracted me to the post and I think that the drive to maintain and improve standards has led us well through recent national changes in education, such as curriculum, assessment and provision for children with additional needs.
As a member of BEST's Senior Leadership Group I contribute to the Curriculum and Progress team, the provision for pupils' pastoral, SEND and welfare needs, and liaise with trust academies in other areas such as assessment development.
Jo Graves – Vice Chair and lead governor for Staff Welfare, HR, Health & Safety, Premises and NQT Induction
I have lived in Arlesey since 2004 and I have two children who attend Gothic Mede and the Nursery.
I am the HR and Staff Welfare Governor and draw upon my experience gained working in the HR Department of a City Law Firm.
I became a Governor as I wanted to support Gothic Mede and help ensure that it is ready for the challenges that an expanding Arlesey will bring.
Sheila Pembroke – Safeguarding governor, lead governor for Curriculum & SEND
I have recently retired having spent all of my working life supporting children and families in a variety of different roles and settings including School Librarian, Careers Teacher in a secondary school In Hertfordshire, then within the Careers and Connexions services and finally at Central Bedfordshire Council within Children’s Services.
Although I live in Shefford both my grandchildren attend or have attended Gothic Mede Academy – my grandson is currently in year 2.
Emily Rowlands - Pupil Premium
I served as a governor at Arlesey Nursery School from 2012 until its recent merger with Gothic Mede Academy, serving as Vice-Chair of Governors at the nursery for the last few years. I have two children who attend Gothic Mede and another who attends the nursery. I greatly enjoy the ability afforded as a governor to contribute to the educational experience of all children within the school through collaboration with the school’s excellent teaching staff.
Before my third child was born I spent ten years working with as a Social Worker supporting children and families in a safeguarding-children role. Currently, I am a trustee of BEST Nurseries. I also seek to raise money for Gothic Mede Acedemy both through participation in the Parents and Friends of Gothic Mede (PFGM), and by overseeing the local Terracycle recycling program.
Rachel Evans -
I moved to Arlesey only 4 years ago from Devon, but am very happy to call this village my home and I am proud to have become a Parent Governor for Gothic Mede Academy. I have a son in the school and I look forward to my daughter also joining in the next few years. My background is in aviation, as an Engineer, and I hope to draw on my experiences in the world outside education to support the Academy as it moves forward, especially in the areas of Maths and Science.
Mark Greaney -
I have two daughters who both love being at Gothic Mede, and that's testament to the hard work of the staff and the atmosphere they create. I joined the Board of Governors because I wanted to be more involved in my daughters' education, and because I believe this is a great school that really allows the children who attend it to flourish. I am an internal business consultant for Transport for London, so my key skills are in problem solving, data analysis and helping to set business strategies. I look forward to using these skills to help make Gothic Mede even better.
